Hello grown-up friends, it’s me, Trafford.
I wanted to tell you a little bit about two things you might have seen on my website — Tales from Silvamere and Tails from Silvamere.
They sound very similar, and that is because they are connected… but they are designed to be used in slightly different ways.
Tales from Silvamere
Tales from Silvamere are calm, narrated stories.
In these stories, my good friend Mark, from N332, gently guides children through simple ideas about safety, awareness, and understanding the world around them. The stories are designed to feel relaxed and unhurried, so children can listen, imagine, and take things in at their own pace.
Mark says that when children feel calm, they are more able to understand what they are hearing. That is why the stories are not fast or busy, and why they can even be used at quiet times, like before sleep.
The aim is not to teach in a formal way, but to help children begin to notice, think, and understand.
Tails from Silvamere
Tails from Silvamere is something a little different.
These are quiet, real-world videos from my friend Riley’s garden camera. They show animals going about their day, or night, in a natural and gentle way.
There is no narration, just soft sound and simple moments.
Mark says that one of the most important skills for safety is observation — not just looking, but really seeing what is happening.
These videos help children practise that skill without even realising it.
They can simply watch and relax… or, if they choose, look a little closer and notice more.
Why They Work Together
Tales help children understand ideas through story.
Tails help children practise those ideas by watching the real world.
Mark says that learning works best when children are not rushed or overloaded. By keeping things simple and calm, children are more likely to build confidence, rather than feel pressure.
Both are designed to reduce cognitive load — that means not asking the brain to do too much at once — so children can focus on one thing at a time.
How You Can Use Them
There is no single way to use Tales and Tails, but here are a few gentle ideas:
- Listen to a Tale together at a quiet time, and let the story settle naturally
- Watch a Tail and simply enjoy the moment, without needing to explain anything
- If a child is curious, you can ask simple questions like, “What can you see?”
- Allow time for silence — noticing often happens in quiet moments
Mark says that some of the best learning happens when children are given space to think, rather than being told what to think.
A Calm Approach to Learning
Everything in Silvamere is designed to feel safe, calm, and welcoming.
There is no need to rush, and no need to get things “right”.
By helping children to:
- slow down
- look carefully
- and notice small details
we are quietly building the foundations for safer decisions in the real world.
Thank you for being part of Silvamere.
Take your time… and enjoy the little things.
